The Township of Mapleton received a report for information that sparked debate over the future of housing in the municipality.
Per the report, the Housing Accelerator Fund program is intended to drive transformational change within the sphere of control of the local government regarding land use planning and development approvals.
Council was presented with eleven initiatives in the report, including evaluating the notion of a dedicated levy to address capital financial requirements and a county partnership geared towards rental property generation.
These were the two initiatives Councillor Michael Martin was against.
This was rebutted by Mayor Gregg Davidson, who pointed out the benefits of these initiatives.
Martin created a motion to remove the two subject initiatives but there was no seconder.
It was recommended that staff include a minimum of seven of the listed initiatives in the report.
