MOUNT FOREST – A property classified as an eyesore in a letter from the Mount Forest BIA is now garnering attention from council.
Councillor Sherry Burke was the one to bring the letter from BIA Chair Andrew Coburn to Wellington North staff’s attention at a Monday night meeting.
Coburn stated in the letter the property is a “liability to the general public” presenting aesthetic and safety concerns. The building at 178 Main Street South is apparently deteriorating and overrun with weeds Burke estimated to be four feet high.
Burke went on to say while the building’s purpose may be known, its future needs to be addressed.
The owner has yet to be notified of the letter, which filed a property standards complaint.
Councillor Penny Renken said she agrees it’s an eyesore.
Mayor Andy Lennox added the demolition has been quite a process.
Lennox broke the issue down to two problems, the weeds and the building structure. A report from council will be presented at a September 11th meeting.
