GUELPH/ERAMOSA – The Guelph/Eramosa Fire Department in Rockwood responded to 53 calls between May and July.
An additional 66 calls in the township were attended by the Guelph Fire Department.
According to a quarterly report recently presented to council, most of the calls were for medical issues.
The report noted a significant increase in medical responses, due to ambulance delays and renewed tiering agreement with Guelph Wellington EMS.
Among the other calls were vehicle collisions, two structure fires, and 17 CO alarm activations which Fire Chief Jim Petrik says most of the time end up being a false alarm.
However, Petrick notes that as we head into the fall season and residents begin to start up their wood stoves and furnaces, sometimes the seals have deteriorated and result in a real alarm activation.
He stresses everyone should have working CO alarm systems in place.
