WELLINGTON NORTH – While the province is working to find a definition for affordable housing, municipalities like Wellington North continue to search for answers on how to provide it.
The township recently applied for the CMHC Housing Accelerator Fund but required council support at a Monday meeting.
Council voted in favour of seven identified initiatives as a part of their application, including the Mount Forest and Arthur water towers.
CAO Brooke Lambert explained infrastructure is crucial to increasing what is a recently improved local housing supply.
Mayor Andy Lennox, also warden of Wellington County, says he struggles to find a parallel to what Wellington North has accomplished of late, locally or more abroad.
Lennox says there is a lot to be proud of in terms of housing in the municipality, and added Wellington North isn’t alone in needing financial aid in this process.
Lennox admitted it was a “tough pill to swallow” to be classified in the large urban stream, but says he understands there are many smaller communities across the province.
