WELLINGTON COUNTY – As many head out for the last long weekend of the summer, Wellington County OPP is reminding drivers to make safety a priority.
The OPP say they will be out in full force on the highways for the Labour Day Weekend.
Constable Joshua Cunningham says police will be focusing on the “Big Four”.
So far this year, the OPP has seen nine fatal roadway collisions in Wellington County.
Police have also laid over 5,300 charges this year in the county, including 1,812 for speeding, 219 for seatbelts, 137 for impaired driving, and 51 for distracted driving.
Constable Joshua Cunningham says these poor behaviours factor in road deaths across the province and locally in Wellington County.
Cunningham also reminds boaters and off-road vehicle riders to make safety their top priority this weekend.
The long weekend campaign begins today and runs through Labour Day Monday.
