WELLINGTON COUNTY – Results are out for the CMHA Waterloo Wellington Mentally Healthy Communities Survey. While all scores were lower than the organization says they would like would like to see, Wellington County’s figure was the lowest.
Ratings were as high as 6.8 in Waterloo and 6.7 in Guelph, but Wellington County had a five out of ten in terms of how mentally healthy survey-takers would consider themselves based on a variety of criteria.
CEO of CMHA Waterloo Wellington Helen Fishburn stated what they want to see is high eights and nines.
She says while the survey was just ten minutes and not a deep dive, it did provide an in-depth look at a major need within the community.
Fishburn added she wasn’t shocked to see bigger urban centres, like the leading Waterloo and Guelph, score higher.
Fishburn explained she’s aware local mental health leaders are doing great work, but the survey points out we need government to go to the next level and integrate how funds are provided to reach more people.
