WELLINGTON COUNTY – Starting in October, 38 additional beds will be available at a local homeless shelter.
Wellington County council approved an increase to the 2023 Housing Services budget yesterday, in the amount of $150,000.
The funding will be provided to Stepping Stone Guelph Wellington to support staffing costs and accommodate 38 people at the homeless shelter starting October 1st.
Warden Andy Lennox says homelessness is not an issue that will be fixed overnight, but it is one that will continue to be top of mind.
Lennox says he commends staff for not only the increase in accommodation, but also their work to continue to address the rapidly evolving issue.
Lennox went on to say as the communities within the county grow, the need will too.
He stated the speed with which the issue is changing makes it a tough one to tackle.
