During the Covid-19 pandemic, we’ve seen a lot of things close to help limit the spread of the virus. One of those, is our schools. This has forced kids to learn from home, through online portals. But as you can imagine, not everyone might have the means or proper equipment to learn from home. This month, the Upper Grand District School Board launched their distance learning program. Teachers reached out to all families to see what their technology needs are and what other supports are required for their children to connect at home.
Communications and Community Engagement Officer, Heather Loney, tells The Grand @ 101 that “much like in the traditional classroom environment, we believe it is important that we provide whatever supports we can to help students engage in learning and feel supported. This includes providing devices and technology, SEA equipment and hands-on printed materials for students as needed.”
So starting the week of April 6, while adhering to Public Health safety protocols, Upper Grand District School Board retrieved, disinfected and packed over 3,200 Chromebooks, which were then delivered to students across the board. Over 1,300 of those were sent to students with special education needs.
A true display of making the best of the situation we are in.
