FERGUS – Centre Wellington Council has given the approval for a new pedestrian crossing to be included in the reconstruction of St. David Street North in Fergus.
The decision was made at Monday’s committee of the whole meeting.
The new pedestrian crossing will be located at the intersection of St David Street North and St George Street.
The reconstruction of St. David Street North from St. Andrew Street to Edinburgh Avenue is planned to start in spring 2024.
In a update to council on the project, staff said the design of the streetscape is nearing completion, which includes curb lines, sidewalks, and separated cycling mobility lanes.
Phase 1 includes work on St. Andrew Street to Garafraxa Street in spring 2024 and Phase 2 includes Garafraxa Street to Edinburgh Avenue in spring 2025.
The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025, with some finishing work in 2026.
Council will have to ratify the committee’s approval to include the pedestrian crossing at a later date.
