WELLINGTON NORTH – New self-containing breathing apparatuses will be coming shortly to Wellington North fire fighters following council approval of funding.
Chief Chris Harrow was before council Monday, and explained the technology on the new MSA devices made them the more attractive of two options the fire fighters had.
The two companies trialed were Scott and MSA.
Both types of SCBA were 4,500 PSI versions; the new industry standard.
Harrow says part of what made the MSA such a good option boiled down to increased battery life.
He went on to say that’s just the beginning of what the MSA chosen has to offer.
$381,497.00 plus HST will be the dollar value for council through AJ Stone.
The MSA has a 15 year life span and is durable, according to Harrow, who stated only minor repairs on gauges and valves should present themselves in that time span.
The next step will be a tender document that is being issued through Minto for two compressors and fill stations. One will be for the Mount Forest Station and the other for the Palmerston Station.
