FERGUS – The Fergus Tennis Club is looking to add five new courts. Making a delegation at last night’s Centre Wellington council meeting, club president Sheila Hogarth explained with 450 members, the local club is now double their capacity and growing.
Currently, FTC uses three courts. Hogarth is asking council to consider making an initial investment of $30,000 for the courts as well as an all-season bubble facility.
The cost would be reduced by several credits including a grant from Tennis Canada.
While no potential location was specified in the delegation, Hogarth said she believes somewhere accessible for those living in Fergus and Elora would be ideal.
Hogarth said while tennis is the priority, she wouldn’t close the door on other sports occupying the courts to keep them busy.
If they were to pay for the courts themselves, FTC would be out $130,000 for the five playing surfaces, and no bubble.
Mayor Shawn Watters and council will make a decision on the matter as they finalize the 2024 budget.
