WELLINGTON COUNTY – Armed with background in leadership and farming, a new president is coming to the Wellington Federation of Agriculture (WFA).
Former president Janet Harrop will still be on the WFA board as Barclay Nap takes the reigns.
Nap, who grew up on a dairy farm and now primarily produces farm-share boxes of fresh vegetables, is based in Puslinch.
Nap says Harrop has been a great leader and spokesperson during her eight years as president of the federation, which works for farmers’ economic, environmental, and social well-being.
Now in a position of leadership after a decade on the board, Nap has some changes in mind including adding members.
Nap added he’s always been supportive of Harrop, who thought he was ready to take over duties.
He says his target is to blend his mindset with other members’ schools of thought.
Nap says it’s his philosophy everyone gets the opportunity to lead, as he prepares to spearhead the local ag federation.
