WELLINGTON COUNTY – Of the 10 million eligible blood donors in Ontario, only less than two per cent are giving blood. A local Canadian Blood Services employee says while Guelph and surrounding area are doing an admirable job, there’s still room for many appointments.
The pandemic brought a “significant” loss of donors that Katie Bea, Community Development Manager of the Guelph area for Canadian Blood Services, says they’re still trying to recoup from.
Bea, who praised Guelph for their donation frequency, says there’s still work to be done across Wellington County, as a slew of appointments remain free in the coming weeks.
Don’t count yourself out, Bea says, as she noted eligibility guidelines are modified often.
Bea did give credit to Guelph for their support but says there’s room for improvement elsewhere.
