ERIN – 59.6 per cent of the Town of Erin’s bridges and culverts were evaluated as in “good” condition in a report that will be before council this afternoon.
38.3 per cent of the structures were classified as “fair” and 2.1 per cent were classified as “poor.”

Via Report, RJ Burnside and Associates.
The Bridge Condition Index, or BCI for each structure has been determined based on MTO methodology.
A new structure would have a BCI value of 100.
A ‘good’ BCI ranges from 70-100, fair ranges 50-70, and poor is less than 50.
During the 2023 inspections, a bridge located on Second Line was noted to be in poor condition with severe deterioration of key structural elements.
Second Line, First Line, Sideroad 27, Eighth Line and Sideroad 32 were locations with structures recommended for replacement.
A report from the town says the information provided will be used to prioritize capital budgets for bridge and culvert repairs, rehabilitation, and replacement.
They stated based on the current state of the inspected structures, the town is underperforming on the management of their bridge assets when compared to the MTO’s established goal.
The report will be received for information.
