CENTRE WELLINGTON – Centre Wellington could see up to an 8.54 per cent tax increase in 2024, its highest since before the pandemic.
2023 saw a 3.53 per cent jump, while the hike in 2022 was 2.16 per cent.
An 8.54 percent tax increase in the township would lead to an extra $114 on an average assessed home at just over $381,000.
Proposed in this year’s draft budget, the 8.54 per cent figure is driven by a variety of factors including a $240,000 cost for termite management and increased staffing costs.
The document is also spurred by several other jumps in costs, namely an increase in transfers to equipment, facility and general capital reserves.
CAO Dan Wilson mentioned in the draft the township is presenting their first business plan in conjunction with the document.
Budget deliberations will continue in council chambers in Elora the first week of December.
The 2024 budget is proposed to be approved on December 18th.
