WELLINGTON NORTH – Wellington North’s proposed 2024 tax increase has dropped below five per cent.
In a report presented to staff at Wednesday’s special meeting of council, the number has dropped to 4.94 per cent.
That figure came down from 5.87, the increase proposed earlier this month.
Councillor Lisa Hern said she is at peace with the budget in its current state.
Mayor Andy Lennox said he understands the tax increase is a big ask for Wellington North residents, but he sees it as a necessity.
Lennox added he expects that gap to only grow further.
He says he attributes the jump, which councillors agreed is still a high spike, to a battle all municipalities are fighting.
Excluding the amount put aside for the Arthur Wastewater project, staff say the 4.94 per cent increase is consistent with previous years.
The report was received for information and staff will continue to work their way through budget deliberations in the coming weeks.
