NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
December 5, 2023 | For Immediate Release | The Wellington Catholic District School Board welcomes Marylin Dawson as the new Superintendent of Student Achievement.
Dawson, a Catholic educator and life-long learner with over 20 years of experience as a teacher, principal, and Superintendent within Catholic education in Ontario, will be a welcomed addition to the senior administration team.
“We look forward to having Marylin join our team in January. Her system-level experience with Bruce Grey Catholic DSB and Waterloo Catholic DSB will be an asset as she provides leadership within our school board,” said Michael Glazier, Director of Education of the Wellington Catholic DSB. “Marylin has demonstrated leadership in student achievement and faith formation and a passion for ensuring all students are supported in achieving success. We welcome Marylin and wish her great success as she transitions into this role.”
In the role of Superintendent of Student Achievement, Dawson will continue to build relationships within our schools, and with our families, trustees, community partners, parishes, and Ministry of Education.
“Marylin has a breadth of experience in Catholic Education that will serve our system well,” said Marino Gazzola, Chair of the Wellington Catholic DSB. “We look forward to having her leadership in our school board as a member of our senior team.”
Dawson began her career as an elementary school teacher, earning recognition for supporting student achievement, before moving on to be the Religion and Family Life Consultant for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board where she led training and development, facilitated system- wide events, and contributed to provincial curriculum writing teams and professional development initiatives. She later served as an elementary school principal where she focused efforts on improving student achievement and promoting inclusive education practices within her school. Most recently, Dawson has been serving as Superintendent of Education with the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board where, as a member of the Board’s Senior Team, she was responsible for implementing, monitoring Ministry and system initiatives, while working collaboratively with principals, instructional consultants, teachers, and support staff, parents, students, parishes, trustees and external partners to build a community of faith, trust and respect.
Throughout Dawson’s extensive career, she has proven system leadership skills, with experience leading the implementation of the Math Achievement Action Plan, the Board Equity Plan and the Literacy Achievement Plan.
“I am excited to join the Wellington Catholic District School Board and contribute to its focus on excellence in student achievement, faith formation, and inclusive education. The Board has an excellent reputation in our region, and I look forward to working with our principals, trustees, members of the senior team, and all employee groups to continue that legacy,” shared Dawson, incoming Superintendent of Student Achievement of the Wellington Catholic DSB.
Dawson will serve the Wellington Catholic DSB as Superintendent of Student Achievement beginning January 8, 2024.
