NEWS RELEASE TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON
CENTRE WELLINGTON –The First Line Cruden Bridge (24-WG) has been replaced and re-opened, allowing traffic to move over Irvine Creek. The former structure was closed in 2018. Reopening this river crossing provides significant benefits to the area’s farmers, residents, and emergency response personnel. This bridge replacement project demonstrates the outcomes of the primary directives of Centre Wellington Council’s Strategic Plan to “Create conditions for economic prosperity” and “improve the activity, health, and wellness of our community”.
The scope of work included demolition of the existing bridge, road reconstruction/drainage work, and full bridge replacement with a new two-lane structure built to current Canadian Bridge Design Code requirements. The replacement bridge includes architectural details and a plaque to commemorate the original bridge and will provide a service life of an estimated 90 years.
This bridge replacement was funded primarily through the Township’s Bridge Dedicated Capital Levy, with partial funding by the Province of Ontario’s Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF).
An official grand opening ceremony will be planned in the spring of 2024 to acknowledge the completion of this important link in Centre Wellington.
