WELLINGTON COUNTY – Significant rainfall this winter, as opposed to snow, has shifted the landscape for the local watershed, according to the Grand River Conservation Authority.
Manager of Flood Operations at the GRCA Vahid Taleban says this new pattern, among other trends, has had drastic impacts on the watershed.
Taleban went on to add the inconsistent weather and heavy days of precipitation are a result of climate change.
He says based on available information, the next couple decades will also see a drastic increase in the very hot days of 30-plus degrees.
Taleban says snow not sticking around has contributed to these trends.
Despite unpredictable weather patterns, Taleban says the GRCA are ready to take on any conditions that come their way.
Taleban stated there is a decrease in the projected number of days below zero in the coming years.
