MOUNT FOREST – A second crossing guard will officially be placed at the Victoria Cross School location.
The decision came at a Monday Wellington North meeting.
Staff also stated the issue of crossing guards spans beyond just Mount Forest.
There are currently six part time crossing guards with one back up guard.
The report before staff stated in general:
- Crossing guards are situated at the busiest intersections in the township
- Two are located in Arthur and four are located in Mount Forest
- They work from 8:00 am to 9:00 am and 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
There have been several complaints that led to the issue coming up in council, including an email that stated a pair were almost struck by a car while the stop sign was up.
Staff say the pilot placement of the crossing guard will run for a two month trial, and then will be reviewed as to whether or not to proceed with two guards at that location on a more permanent basis.
