HARRISTON – Minto’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee is inviting all to celebrate diversity at the Town of Minto’s celebration of Black Heritage Month.
In a media release, the township says KWEEN – ‘one of Canada’s 100 Top Black Women to Watch’- will be at the Harriston Library in the community room on Saturday February 17th 10:30am until 12:30pm.
Kween, who lives in Guelph, is an entrepreneur and activist with a great presence and sense of humour.
“She and a member of her TKC Dance Troupe will showcase Soca Dance, a Caribbean-styled artform to upbeat Caribbean music as well as discussions around history and education of movement, dance, and culture. In addition, hear about her frontline experiences in protest and what allyship can look like for our communities,” a press release said.
The township says Kween will also lead discussion and be open to questions from 11:30 to 12:30 while lunch is served. The food, chicken dumpling soup, a Jamaican patty and a beverage is catered by local chef Ryan Balram of Bigg Dogg and is included with admission.
Space is limited so everyone is asked to register by February 9th at the latest.
Visit https://www.town.minto.on.ca/calendar/event/43953 to register.
There is a $5 fee to attend, which will include the cost of lunch and supports the continued efforts of Minto’s DEI Committee.
