WELLINGTON COUNTY – Guelph General Hospital is actively looking for new volunteers for their Family Patient and Advisory Council.
A media release states “members use their firsthand experience receiving care as a patient, being a family member, or caregiver to contribute their perspective to decision-making at the hospital.”
The council is touted as a welcoming environment for anyone 18-plus who has been a patient or supported a patient at Guelph General Hospital in the last three years.
Meeting monthly, this group is involved in ongoing projects that advisors participate in including patient surveying, quality improvement planning, and reviewing patient and family educational material.
“Committees where an Advisor is part of the conversation are far more meaningful. We can put our best foot forward and plan for what we think is the best possible care, but we can’t feel what it is like to be the patient who receives it. These volunteers can; they share those details with us openly to help us design better programs and provide better care,” shared Melissa Skinner, Vice President, Patient Services and Chief Nursing Executive at Guelph General Hospital.
