Through a notice of motion from councillor Lisa MacDonald, the Township of Centre Wellington will be voicing their support for legislative changes regarding municipal codes of conduct.
The township will support the call of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario for the Government of Ontario to introduce legislation to strengthen Municipal Codes of Conduct and compliance with them in consultation with municipal governments.
A series of recommendations includes the motion’s circulation to Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, the Honourable Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, the Honourable David Lametti the Minister of Justice and others.
Also noted is the need to increase the training of municipal Integrity Commissioners to enhance consistency of investigations and recommendations across the province.
