ERIN – A public meeting in Erin Thursday saw residents and council members alike concerned about the mass tree removal that would be involved in a proposed development.
The 572-unit residential development at 5520 Eighth Line and 5552 Eighth Line would see all trees on the properties removed before March 15th to follow wildlife regulations. Topsoil would be stripped and stockpiled as well. The development spans 155 acres in all.
The applicant says the grading portion would be in the fall, servicing in 2025, and house construction not until 2026.
The proposal is to bring back the application for approval at the next Erin council meeting before beginning the tree and vegetation clearing process.
While this schedule felt rushed to several councillors, councillor Cathy Aylard’s concerns stemmed from her worries about protecting wildlife.
The applicant reassured council members and residents in the gallery this had all been taken into consideration throughout the early stages of planning.
Council will have a chance to give the developer the green-light to clear the trees at the next regular meeting of council, scheduled for February 22nd.
