WELLINGTON COUNTY – “Pet rabbits are often underestimated.”
That’s the message from Guelph Humane Society’s Executive Director Lisa Veit during a February-long ‘Hoppy Tails’ rabbit adoption promotion.
Down from an original rate of $160, during Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month, fees to adopt a rabbit will total just $75.
Veit says amid what many societies are calling a bunny crisis, adoption rates have plummeted.
Veit added the drop in adoption rate is one of several tendencies that have been observed in recent years.
Guelph Humane Society encourage anyone interested in getting a rabbit to go the adoption route.
Veit says while often “underestimated,” the species makes a great companion.
Veit says during COVID a lot of people were interested in getting pets, and intake went way up as the rabbit population boomed.
The society currently has 13 rabbits in care, and Veit says the biggest challenge is finding them a home.
All rabbits available are already spayed or neutered and come with up-to-date vaccines.
