WELLINGTON COUNTY – Following in the footsteps of the district elementary chess tournament, that draws in over 200 students a year, the Wellington Catholic District School Board was excited to host their first ever secondary district chess tournament.
The board explains the tournament, spearheaded by local student senator Kellyanne, took place on March 6th, 2024 at the Wellington Catholic DSB Catholic Education Centre.
The board says in their news release over 35 students participated throughout three divisions.
After five grueling rounds, the junior winner was Phoenix of St. James CHS.
The senior crown went to Henryk, and the rookie title to Oksana, both from the same school.
