WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wednesday marks World Delirium Awareness Day.
CMHA Waterloo Wellington took to social media Wednesday morning with some tips on how to prevent delirium in older adults.
They say the awareness day is a day to raise awareness about delirium and its impact on patients, families, and healthcare systems. “It is intended to bring attention to the importance of early recognition and intervention of delirium.”
Stimulating the mind, moving, getting good sleep and eating were all noted as ways to combat delirium in older people.
Thing to watch for, CMHAWW say, include these adults suddenly becoming easily distracted or unaware of what time it is.
