FERGUS – “A very important part of planning is to recognize the things that need to change, and keep the things that are good.”
Peter Boyer, a member of the Pierpoint Neighbourhood Group was one of several prominent local figures to make comment on the future of Fergus in a new documentary soon to air on March 26th.
Crossroads: Beyond Boom and Bust also features the likes of Centre Wellington mayor Shawn Watters, Janet Harrop, former president of the Wellington Federation of Agriculture, and more.
It highlights the town’s Scottish roots, the “quaint charm” of its natural limestone structures, and how Fergus attempts to hang onto its rich history.
Amid pressure to develop and grow, some are worried about the loss of Fergus’ roots, and in the case of Harrop, farmland.
Watters says Fergus and surrounding lands supply some of the best ag land in the country.
Protecting that land while also keeping the good things Boyer referenced, such as natural limestone features highlighted in the doc, is a theme in the trailer for the TVO doc.
You can stream all six episodes of Crossroads on the TVO website, Youtube, or tune in when the Fergus episode debuts, March 26th at 9 p.m.
