FERGUS – No decision was made yet when the South Fergus Secondary Plan had the chance to get the green-light at a Centre Wellington council meeting on Monday.
The development on the South end of town would accommodate about 6,000 residents in a variety of housing types.
Council concerns at the meeting were varied, ranging from a lack of active transportation and green space to the visual optics of the development.
Councillor Kim Jefferson for one was curious as to the lack of what she called “connectivity” the developer brought to the table between the public meeting and Monday.
Councillor Lisa MacDonald says she wants to see active living on the forefront throughout the whole development.
Meanwhile, Councillor Barb Evoy shared similar issues, namely the fact that resident concerns had not been addressed.
Mayor Shawn Watters told council this will be “one of the biggest decisions you’ll be making.”
Watters urged council to get to the point they’re ready to make the decision.
The issue was deferred until a committee of the whole next month.
