GUELPH – A Guelph man faces robbery and weapons charges after police say a replica firearm was pointed and discharged during a convenience store robbery Thursday morning.
Guelph Police say shortly before 7am a male entered a business near Speedvale Avenue East and Stevenson Street North and left without paying for product.
“Two employees followed him outside but the male pulled out a black handgun and pointed it at them. After the employees ran back inside the male shot the glass door, causing it to shatter,” police said in a news release.
No injuries were reported.
Police say approximately 30 minutes later, an officer patrolling near Eramosa Road and Delhi Street saw a man matching the suspect description.
“He was placed under arrest and a search revealed a black BB gun and property from the business.”
A 36-year-old Guelph man faces charges including robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, two counts of pointing a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of discharge a firearm endangering life.
The male was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
