MAPLETON – The Township of Mapleton will be honouring a Drayton resident who recently passed away.
At a recent council meeting, councillor Marlene Ottens brought forward a motion to create an award in memory of John Ford, who passed away suddenly last month at the age of 64.
Ford was very well known in the community, having worked at the Drayton Foodland for 36 years.
Ottens noted the township does not have a citizen of the year award, but does have a senior of the year award.
Mayor Gregg Davidson seconded the motion and thought it was a “fantastic idea”.
Ottens said she has discussed the idea with members of Ford’s family, who are in favour of this and would like to be involved in the choosing of the recipient.
Council unanimously approved the motion to create the John Ford Citizen of the Year Award.
