ELORA – Wellington County staff want to look into rehabilitating the Elora Works Garage.
According to a report going before the Wellington County Roads Committee Tuesday, staff are proposing the rehabilitation of the Elora garage facility located on Wellington Road 21 to extend the building’s useful life.
In June, 2022 staff presented a report that provided an overall masterplan for future road facility needs and validated the need to maintain a garage facility in Elora on the current site.
The proposed rehabilitation of the Elora garage has been included in the Ten Year Plan, with a projected cost of $800,000 split between the 2024 and 2025 budgets.
“The Elora garage, also known as the Gambrel Barn in the community has been used as a concert venue of the Elora Festival for over 20 years. The festival has an agreement with the County which allows for them to occupy the barn from June to September each year,” the report said.
Staff say the intent of the building rehabilitation project is to provide connection to Township wastewater facilities, replace the siding on the building and rehabilitate the foundation walls of the barn.
Staff are proposing that a study commence to determine the best method of rehabilitation moving forward for both the integrity of the building structure as well as supporting the ongoing use of the barn by the Elora Festival.
The report will be considered at Tuesday’s 9am meeting.
