The Township of Mapleton council voted in favour of allowing gun hunting on Sundays.
Ray Kuper of Moorefield appeared before council in June and pointed out that, according to him, 90 per cent of Ontario municipalities allow a Sunday gun hunt, including the neighbouring Town of Minto.
Kuper argued at the time that allowing the Sunday gun hunt is only an extra day or two a year but gives hunters the entire weekend to hunt when game is in season and they need to work during the week.
Mapleton Council voted on the issue Tuesday and is now advising the Ministry of Natural Resources of its decision to allow Sunday gun hunting.
How soon hunters will be allowed to use gun on Sundays will depend on how quickly the ministry processes the change. Mapleton staff say it could be as early as the fall or not until next year.
