NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP
(WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On September 3, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m., members of Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to stop the driver of a silver sedan on Peel Street, Mount Forest. The vehicle fled the area and was later involved in a fail to remain collision. As a result of the investigation, and with assistance from the West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit, a 27-year-old of Harriston, was charged with:
- Dangerous Operation contrary to the Criminal Code
- Flight from Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code
- Failure to Stop after Accident contrary to the Criminal Code
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code
- Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Operate Unsafe Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.
