FERGUS – Groves Hospital Foundation is set to host a unique event, offering community members a chance to own a piece of local history.
The “Pick a Brick” event will take place this Saturday from 11am to 2pm at the old Groves Hospital site, located at the corner of Gowrie and Queen Street in Fergus.
The event aims to commemorate the legacy of the former Groves Memorial Community Hospital building, which had served the community for decades.
Last year, Groves Hospital received approval from the Ontario Ministry of Health to demolish the old hospital building.
Over the past several months, decommissioning work has occurred, including abatement and removal of interior walls and electrical and mechanical elements. The demolition of the old hospital has since been completed.
Once the property is ready for development officials say it will be put up for sale, pending the approval of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Community members are invited to visit the site this Saturday, and select a brick from the dismantled hospital, staff and volunteers from the Groves Hospital Foundation will be on hand to assist visitors.
Donations can be made by cash, cheque, or online through a QR code. Contributions of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt.
Funds raised from the “Pick a Brick” event will go towards purchasing vital equipment and technological tools needed at Groves Hospital for this year.
