CENTRE WELLINGTON – Every June is seniors’ month in Ontario, and although we cannot celebrate our seniors in person, we would like to take a moment to thank all of our wonderful seniors in Centre Wellington.
“Although the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to close our Victoria Park Seniors Centre, a hub for social, educational and recreational programs, I still want our seniors to know that we are here for them during these times” said Mayor Kelly Linton. We all need to find innovative ways to celebrate the positive impact that older adults have on our lives.”
This year’s provincial theme is, Stay Safe, Stay in Touch and focuses on keeping our older adults safe, connected and engaged at home. If you have a friend or neighbor who is an older adult or a person with a disability, please take some time to reach out to them to ensure they have what they need during this difficult period. Please give them a call just to chat or offer to pick up some groceries or a prescription.
Given current circumstances, we are focusing on engaging and bringing together seniors virtually, rather than in person. Residents are invited to visit www.connectcw.ca where we have a virtual platform of activities for our senior’s to enjoy from the comfort of their own homes. Staff are also excited to offer free zoom seminars, exercise classes and weekly bingo! Visit www.centrewellington.ca/seniorscentre for more information on this exciting initiative to support active, healthy lifestyles for our older adults.
Earlier this week, the Waterloo Wellington Launched the Older Adult campaign to help those 70+ stay safe during COVID-19. Visit the WWOAS for more information and resources https://the-ria.ca/resources/waterloo-wellington-older-adult-strategy
