CENTRE WELLINGTON – Centre Wellington is changing how it awards community grants and what community groups can apply for.
During last night’s council meeting, council voted in favour of replacing the former Community Impact Grant Policy and replacing it with the Community Investment Fund Policy.
In addition to the name change, Manager of Community Development with the township, Kristin Bettoil, says the new parameters of the program asks organizations to prioritize one project for funding, and removes the capital funding stream.
Kathryn Giffen, Board Chair of the Elora Centre for the Arts, asked that the funding stream remain in place, saying it is required to preserve and upkeep its heritage building location.
Giffen says they have a list of capital projects that will need continued funding.
Also, the new program does not allow the stacking of grants, requiring groups to include all funding they previously received or will be receiving in their application. Bettoil says this will allow them to help more organizations.
