FERGUS – A date has been announced for the reopening of St. David Street in Fergus.
In an update, the township says St. David Street between St. Andrew Street and Garafraxa Street will be re-opened to traffic by 5pm on Thursday, December 19th.
This will include the intersection of Garafraxa Street and St. David Street.
The section of road has been closed since May for the project.
The township says the contractor is focused on finishing the essential tasks required to reopen the road, including completing the remaining sidewalk sections, applying pavement line markings, installing new streetlights, setting up pedestrian crossings, and configuring traffic signals.
All sidewalks will be completed and opened for the winter. However, landscaped areas, benches, and garbage bins will be added in the spring.
Meanwhile, the next phase of the St. David Street reconstruction project, which extends from just north of the Garafraxa Street intersection to Edinburgh Avenue, will begin in the spring of 2025.
