Belsyde Avenue East in Fergus between Tower Street and McTavish Street was the spot, where county staff and media gathered for an official unveiling of signage for one of seven cameras.
Three others are now live in Aberfoyle, Palmerston and Mount Forest. Drayton, Rockwood and Hillsburgh will all be up and running later this month.
County engineer Don Kudo was on hand for the event, and says there could be more cameras coming soon.
Kudo explained Community Safety Zones are the only place Ontarian municipalities are permitted to put these cameras at the moment.
The program is a one-year pilot. It was dubbed a “new era” by Wellington County’s Roads Committee chair Gregg Davidson, who told the Grand at 101 the threshold for what constitutes a ticket is up to staff, but serves as nothing but a reiteration to residents.
County councillor and Centre Wellington Mayor Shawn Watters was also present for the big day.
He says the goal is to provide incentive to protect community safety for all.
