GUELPH – Two people were arrested Thursday morning after unknowingly agreeing to sell stolen property to police officers.
Last Sunday night, police say a Guelph man reported his vehicle was entered at an address on Woolwich Street and approximately $1,300 worth of climbing equipment was stolen. The next day the equipment was listed for sale on an online marketplace.
“A police officer contacted the seller and arranged to meet Thursday morning and buy the equipment for $400. The seller advised his girlfriend would meet the buyer and provided a description of her,” police said in a news release.
Just after 9 a.m. Thursday officers met with and arrested the girlfriend and her boyfriend was located a short distance away and also arrested.
Police say the climbing equipment was recovered and returned to the victim.
A 38-year-old Guelph man and 27-year-old Guelph woman are each charged with possessing stolen property under $5,000, while the man is also charged with breaching a probation order.
