GUELPH – A Guelph man faces robbery and weapons charges after suspected bear spray was discharged inside a Guelph apartment building.
Just after 6 am, Saturday police were called to an apartment building near Willow Road and Dawson Road for a concerning smell inside the building. Officers arrived and spoke to Guelph Fire Department personnel, who advised a noxious substance had been discharged in one of the units.
“While officers were on scene they were approached by two residents. They advised a male known to them had attended their unit earlier in the morning and brandished a cannister of spray while demanding the female’s purse,” police said in a news release.
A physical altercation between the males ensued, during which the spray was discharged.
A 32-year-old Guelph man was located later in the day at an address downtown and arrested. He is charged with robbery, administering a noxious substance and mischief.
