FERGUS – Getting the green light on a snowy night in Centre Wellington was a Fergus development that sparked its fair share of comments from council.
One councillor voted in opposition of the zoning amendment which will permit a three-story purpose-built rental dwelling with 12 units and 18 parking spaces.
Located on St. David Street North in Fergus, near a local church and elementary school, the amendment was opposed only by councilor Lisa MacDonald, who had a variety of issues with the idea, at Monday’s Centre Wellington meeting.
MacDonald added the transitional nature of this particular project was a red flag for her.
Mayor Shawn Watters and several other councillors voiced their enthusiasm towards the development, meanwhile, and said they were of the mindset this was a positive step towards the township’s intensification target.
MHBC Planning’s Pierre Chauvin was before council as a delegate in support of the building.
MacDonald, though, reiterated her issues with the development boiled down in part to ease of access for pedestrians.
Located at the north-East corner of St. David Street North and Parkside Drive East, MacDonald was the only one to officially oppose the amendment which will see a three-story purpose built rental dwelling.
