TORONTO – The Experimental Acres team were in Toronto last week, where the work of the program was recognized with an Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) Award of Excellence in Rural Economic Development.
This program provides small and medium-sized farms in Wellington County with the opportunity to trial regenerative agriculture practices in a low-risk environment.
County ag coordinator and lead of the program Jordan Grigg, says it was a very exciting honour, and offered words of advice to other municipalities on the heels of this award.
By offering up to $3,000 in micro-grants, soil testing, and research support, Experimental Acres offers the chance for farms to increase long-term profitability.
Grigg continued to say there was a key aspect that drove the program’s success up to this point.
The entire Experimental Acres team was on hand to accept the award, an honour dubbed “very exciting” by Grigg.
She explains this was a successful day for the County all around, as she expressed excitement for another member municipality’s success.
Applications for Experimental Acres in spring of this year are now open.
