MAPLETON – No injuries were reported following a barn fire near Moorefield Tuesday morning,
In an email to The Grand at 101, Mapleton Deputy Fire Chief Callise Loos says firefighters were called to the scene around of a chicken barn fire at around 10:30am this morning northwest of Moorefield on Concession Road 8 between Side Road 6 and Robb St.
The barn was an approximately 200-feet-long chicken barn. The call came in from a passerby who stopped at the location and noticed flames coming from the side of the barn.
Loos says there was smoke and flames visible on arrival.
Concession Road 8 was closed between Sideroad 6 and Wellington County Road 10.

Officials say there were approximately 40 firefighters from four stations on the scene, with Drayton and Moorefield stations attending from Mapleton. Harriston and Palmerston stations are also attending from Minto.

As of 3pm, Loos said firefighters have made headway at the barn fire.
She said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time but is not considered suspicious. The damage has not been set, but the barn will be a significant loss.
