WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is reporting measles exposures at two schools in Erin and Centre 2000.
According to public health, Brisbane Public School in Erin was exposed to measles on April 14th from 1pm to 5:30 pm, April 15th from 9am to 5:30pm, and April 16th from 9am to 4:30pm.
Erin Public School was also exposed on April 16th from 9am to 4:30 pm.
Public Health says that for all school/childcare exposures, students, staff, and teachers have been notified, and no further action is required from the public.
Meanwhile, there was also an exposure reported at Erin Centre 2000 on April 15th from 6:30pm to 10:30pm.
Public Health reminds residents that if you are not fully vaccinated and were at one of the locations, you should monitor for symptoms for 21 days.
Symptoms include:
- Fever
- Runny nose
- Cough
- Red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
- Tiny white spots inside the mouth (Koplik’s spots)
- Red, blotchy rash that starts on the face and spreads downward (generally starts 3-7 days after symptoms begin)
If you develop symptoms or suspect you have measles, contact your doctor’s office and let them know you may have measles so they can take the appropriate precautions before you visit. For general questions about measles, call 1-800-265-7293 ext. 7006 to speak with a public health nurse.
