NEWS RELEASE GUELPH TOOL LIBRARY
The popular program Living Better On Less run by the Guelph Tool Library started a six-week program called Living Better on Less for Seniors, which began May 5 and runs on Mondays until June 16 at All Saints Anglican Church, 81 Main St., Erin. Sessions run from 1-2 p.m. and are free to attend.
The Living Better On Less for Seniors program offers interactive learning that focuses on how to stretch your dollar and have less impact on the environment. The goal of this program is to help participants feel more connected in the community, to allow them to share their experiences and to inform them of resources and opportunities available to them.
Kim Logue, the facilitator of this series for seniors, began volunteering with the Guelph Tool Library over five years ago, and previously offered the program within Guelph via the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association, as well as a virtual version tailored to citizens in the Barrie area. She says, “This is a great opportunity to connect participants with relevant resources in their respective communities and with a focus on new skills for living sustainably, and to reduce their spending and environmental impact all at once. We are really excited to be creating this new series shaped by input from past participants, as well as the Senior’s Advisory Committee and the Living Better on Less Committee at the Guelph Tool Library.”
John Dennis, Transitional Director of the Guelph Tool Library adds more info: “The Living Better on Less program has expanded greatly from the original outreach program created at the Church of the Apostles in Guelph. In the past few years, we have created programming for seniors and youth and taught the program online and virtually to locations throughout Ontario.”
Living Better on Less is now offered through the Guelph Tool Library in partnership with the church. Living Better on Less received funding from the New Horizons For Seniors federal grant program to support the expansion of the program and to bring the program to smaller communities outside of Guelph. The program will bring together seniors in these communities to address issues such as isolation, volunteerism, and finances.
The first smaller community session will run in Erin and began on Monday, May 5, with weekly sessions running until June 16, with the exception of the Victoria Day weekend, May 19. Guests are welcome to attend as many sessions as they would like. The discussion-based sessions will run from 1-2pm, with a mix of special guest speakers, Q&A time, and hands-on learning. Pre-registration is encouraged, and can be done by emailing livingbetteronless@guelphtoollibrary.org
