WELLINGTON COUNTY – Preliminary Vehicle Speed Data indicates that the County’s one-year Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) Pilot Programme is doing exactly what it was intended to do.
According to a County news release, since the implementation of ASE, from January 15 – April 30, 2025, vehicle speed has been reduced on average by 17% at the five trial locations across the County. Compliance with the posted speed limits at these locations has also improved, with a 66% increase in vehicles on average travelling at or lower than the posted speed limit.
“ASE has never been about punishment,” said Gregg Davidson, Roads Committee Chair. “It has been about education and keeping our communities safe. Early data shows that ASE cameras in Wellington County have been successful in achieving significant reductions in speeding within the first three and a half months of our one-year trial programme.”
The County says Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) is designed to curb speeding, alter driver behaviour, and increase safety for the community.
Community Safety Zones were identified based on criteria developed during the County’s Road Master Action Plan study.
The news release says seven trial ASE locations were selected based on current traffic data and provide one trial location in each municipality.
Two locations have been temporarily delayed.
