CENTRE WELLINGTON – “I’m looking forward to riding the shuttle myself this summer.”
Mayor Shawn Watters says he is ecstatic for the launch of another year of the free-to-ride Elora and Fergus Downtown Shuttle that was highlighted by a launch event Friday morning.
Complete with an extra day of service on Fridays and a newly-wrapped vehicle, Watters found it hard to hide his enthusiasm surrounding the program, fist-pumping attendees on board the bus for opening remarks.
“You can tell I’m excited by this initiative and how the community has rallied around it,” said Watters in an interview.

A township tourism ambassador Frederic Giguere was also on hand for the event, and told The Grand at 101 staff are bracing for high numbers to elevate more this year.

The shuttle bus, beginning its route at the Grand River Raceway, will run from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. hourly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until September 14th.
Watters says this shuttle connects Fergus and Elora’s residents and keeps them safe. It’s a necessary addition to the township, he added, as it continues to grow.
This type of enterprise was “dearly needed” in the community, Watters stated. He says he envisions it helping people attend festivals and events, and day-to-day occurrences like work or school.
Watters went on to say there could be more to come eventually when it comes to public transportation.
