FERGUS – A new playground is coming to Farley Road in Fergus this fall.
A report that went before council in Centre Wellington on Monday details a total cost of $477,701.
The township will be contributing nearly $300,000, the report says.
Tender has been awarded to Keating Construction. While councillor Bronwynne Wilton cautioned it “seems like an expensive project,” the design is defined as unique to the area as it will be the first to have a multi-use court that will include basketball hoops.
Councillor Barb Evoy asked about the opportunity to work with partners to eliminate the need for an expensive fence. Staff said that can be investigated.
Managing Director of Infrastucture Colin Baker says there will be a distinct effort to make this new area accessible, citing bumpouts, also known as curb extensions and a crosswalk as well.
Councillor Lisa MacDonald said the project “comes out nice” in the budget given its “sticker shock” number at the outset of planning.
