MEDIA RELEASE ELORA FERGUS ARTS COUNCIL
Elora, Ontario — The Elora Fergus Arts Council and the Wellington County Historical Society warmly invite the community to a special celebration: the unveiling of The Letter, a much-loved triptych mural originally created by Elora artist Marilyn Koop (1952–2012). Join us on Friday, June 20 at 1:30 PM on the south wall of the Elora Post Office (150 Geddes Street).
The Letter tells a quiet, familiar story—a letter written, mailed, and read. First installed in 1999, Marilyn Koop’s mural quickly became a cherished part of Elora’s streetscape. Over time, it weathered and faded, and eventually could no longer be preserved.
In 2025, The Letter has been lovingly brought back to life thanks to a community-led project championed by the Elora Fergus Arts Council and the Wellington County Historical Society. With contributions from both organizations, and generous support from the County of Wellington’s Community Grants Programme, the Centre Wellington Community Foundation Macdonald Fund, and other donors, the mural was faithfully recreated by artists Jefferson Campbell-Cooperand Julie Rene de Cotret. Guided by Koop’s original designs, the artists used durable, weather-resistant materials to preserve the images for generations to come.
“This mural honours not just Marilyn Koop’s artistic legacy, but also the enduring beauty of everyday moments,” said Susan Thorning, Co-Chair of the Elora Fergus Arts Council. “We’re so grateful to Jefferson and Julie for their thoughtful recreation—and to the community that made this restoration possible.”
Everyone is welcome to attend the unveiling. Come celebrate the return of The Letter and the spirit of creativity, collaboration, and connection it represents.
